Black Lambskins
The lambskins are home grown and have 100% traceability. They can be traced back to my remote Wairarapa coastal property. This hardy breed of sheep is the result of a cross with the South African Dorper. They are perfectly suited to the extreme climate and happily graze between the cabbage trees and have a magnificent outlook to the Pacific Ocean (see photo).
All the skins are professionally tanned. They are washable, UV proof, very soft, safe and warm.
I have deliberately kept the fleece so the natural crimp is obvious. A highly brushed fleece looks very synthetic.
Also the skin of the legs are left on as they are always black. The colour of the fleece varies alittle. The variation is from Brown to Black. In the fourskin and twoskin rugs, every effort is made to match colour and length of wool. Sometimes there is the odd patch of white or flecks of white but that is uncommon.
Because the skin is so soft and the wool so luxurious, I think it looks excellent as a throw on a sofa or chair. However, as the skin is unlined it has that non slip attribute on a smooth floor. With alot of homes having bare floors, it is a treat to be able to have such warm coverings underfoot.
Should anyone get really excited, I could make a 6 or 8 skin rug. I haven't priced that as yet but it is possible.

There is a limited supply of these rugs. There may not be anymore until next year at the earliest!
